What does occupational therapy have to do with mental health?
While many people are familiar with occupational therapy (OT) in physical rehab settings, OT is also a Qualified Mental Health Profession - the same designation given to social work, psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, counseling, etc. OT shares some common ground in training and practice with those professions, and includes a strong emphasis on using experiential modalities within a holistic therapeutic process. We are also extensively trained in ways to provide assessment and treatment in our clients’ homes and communities, using components of daily life that our clients find meaningful. OT training differs from the training of some other mental health professions in the amount of time we spend studying the body, which enables us to provide a specialized mind-body treatment approach. For a more detailed overview, see my blog post on occupational therapy and mental health.
*Out-of-network coverage is not guaranteed, and is determined by your insurance provider and specific plan.
